Liam Deegan of Barrel Proof is designing the bar program for Longway Tavern.
, a new restaurant and bar from the folks behind Cavan and Barrel Proof, will open in the French Quarter next year.
The restaurant takes over the building at 719 Toulouse St., which dates back to 1794, and was once home to the writer Roark Bradford and his wife Mary Rose, who hosted guests such as William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway and John Carroll, according to a statement from the restaurant group.
The group, which also operates French Quarter restaurants Sylvain and Meauxbar, plans to open Longway in early 2018, according to the release. Described as a neighborhood tavern, its menu is being developed by chef John Sinclair, also of Barrel Proof.
“We have always had this vision to make sure that the French Quarter always felt like a neighborhood first and foremost," said proprietor Robert LeBlanc. "That was why we opened Sylvain.”
Menu items include a steak sandwich with caramelized onion aioli, grilled scallions and Worcestershire, fried calamari with blistered tomatoes, charred lemon and bitter greens, and a chicken thigh served with root vegetable hash, cauliflower cream and mostarda.
Longway Tavern’s bar program is being headed up by Barrel Proof beverage director Liam Deegan and drinks will include classic cocktails like a Gibson, a Champs Elysees, and a John Collins, as well as new creations like the Chartreuse swizzle and a Irish coffee Manhattan.
