In 2015, prior to the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead's founding in San Francisco, many local Dead fans hoped a reunion show (minus Jerry Garcia, who died in 1995) might happen at Jazz Fest or in New Orleans that summer. Instead, remaining members of the band held shows in California and Chicago. Following those events, former Dead members Mickey Hart, Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzmann formed Dead & Company, along with guitarist John Mayer, former Allman Brothers' bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.
