Two New Orleans restaurants were listed among the country’s 50 best new restaurants according to a Bon Appetit list
Irish Channel sandwich shop Turkey & the Wolf
(739 Jackson Ave., (504) 218-7428) and Mid-City’s Southeast Asian barbecue joint Marjie’s Grill
(320 S. Broad St., (504) 603-2234) are among the top contenders listed in the food magazine’s Best New Restaurants 2017 lineup.
In keeping with the magazine’s tradition, the finalists are announced two weeks ahead of the top 10 picks, which will be released when the magazine announces its Hot 10 winners list on August 15. Last year’s list included New Orleans finalists
Willa Jean and Josephine Estelle, while Upper 9th Ward hidden gem N7 was named among the Hot 10.
Over the past year, editors Andrew Knowlton and Julia Kramer ate their way across the country to whittle down the list to 50 finalists, which also included heavy-hitting restaurants like Brooklyn’s Olmsted, Destroyer and Kismet in Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon’s Tusk.
It’s the latest in a series of accolades for Turkey & the Wolf chef Mason Hereford’s playful restaurant, which in May was named one of Food & Wine magazine’s 10 best new restaurants of the year.
Marjie’s Grill, the Southeast Asian-inspired take on a meat-and-three from chef Marcus Jacobs and his partner Caitlin Carney, has also garnered national publicity since its opening late last year, including honorable mentions from Food & Wine
and The New York Times.
