  • The Auction House Market, a new food hall concept from the owners of St. Roch Market, will open by the end of 2017 at 801 Magazine St.

The folks behind St. Roch Market have a new project in the Warehouse District.

The Auction House Market, which is slated to open by the end of the year, will house 10 food stalls on the bottom floor at 801 Magazine St., a warehouse building previously occupied by the New Orleans Auction Galleries. The building, which was built in 1895, was originally the Tinker Copper and Iron Works, and the owners say plans for the market’s design will honor the original concept.

The market is a joint venture between the St. Roch Market owners and Felicity Property Co., who are re-developing the building, said St. Roch Market owner Will Donaldson.

“We’re really excited,” Donaldson said. “Our customers have been asking us for a long time to expand into other areas of the city and the timing felt right."

The building sits across the street from chef Donald Link's Peche. The project features roughly 8,500 square feet for the food hall and a 1,600 square-foot event space. Donaldson says the market floor plan is similar to St. Roch’s size but includes additional kitchen space for back-of-house operations.

Like St. Roch Market, the concept will welcome up-and-coming food purveyors who lease space and share a communal kitchen. Donaldson says the list of vendors is in the early stages and those interested in applying can to do so on the company’s website.

Diners can expect some type of coffee and pastry hub, a salad bar and an oyster counter with a bar, among other vendors.

Donaldson says the separate event space might host art or produce markets, and will be available for private events.

The market will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekdays and until 11 p.m. on the weekends.
