COURTESY FRIED CHICKEN FESTIVAL
The second Fried Chicken Festival is expanding to two days and will take place in Woldenberg Park on Sept. 23 and 24.
After crowds of more than 40,000 packed Lafayette Square for the inaugural Fried Chicken Festival, this year’s event will expand to two days and move to a larger space, organizers said.
The 2017 festival will take place at Woldenberg Park Sept. 23 and 24.
At the first festival, some attendees waited as long as two hours for food and drink, and lines filled the park. Woldenberg Park has more than 520,000 square feet of space — five times larger than the square — according to the release, and organizers say.
“The Fried Chicken Festival gives us a great opportunity to produce a free festival for families while providing a platform to showcase independently owned restaurants,” said Cleveland Spears, III, president and CEO of the Spears Group, the company that organizes the festival.
This year’s festival will feature 35 vendors, two music stages, a cooking demonstration stage and celebrity chef appearances, among other amenities.
