Wine of the Week

This wine comes from a historic property that dates back to the 12th century when monks constructed the monastery and cellars. The estate eventually fell into the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte, and ancestors of the current owners acquired the abbey from him in 1806. Today, the sixth generation of the Kunow family operates the winery. This simple, pleasant, easy-drinking Riesling is medium dry with attractive scents of lilac, citrus and pear with ginger and spice undertones. On the palate, grapefruit, lemon, lime, stone fruit and green apple flavors dominate with a zesty acidity, and there are refreshing pineapple notes on the finish. Drink it now as a fine accompaniment to fusion cuisine, salads and spicy dishes. Where to buy it: Matassa's Market and Dorignac's. Where to drink it: Pascal's Manale, Vincent's Italian Cuisine Uptown and Metairie, Brick Oven Café, Andrea's, Restaurant Cypress and the Maple Cafe. (Listings current at press time.)
