Wine of the Week


The estate's name is derived from an early (287 A.D.) Christian martyr who is considered the patron saint of doctors. Made from grapes sourced from 70- to 100-year-old low-yielding vines, the wine is 90 percent Grenache with small amounts of Carignan and Mourvédre. An excellent value, the wine is unfiltered and exudes that enticing rustic (increasingly referred to as "garrigue") character of its Rhone origins. In the glass, dark berry, leather and spice aromas are followed on the palate by ripe red cherry flavors, integrated tannins, adequate acidity and some complexity. It is richly textured and well-balanced, and it's good with smoky meats, bean dishes, sausages and game.
