Wine of the Week

South Africa's stunning and sassy Sauvignon Blancs from Stellenbosch, located about 40 miles due south of the Paarl Valley, may be in for some competition from Chardonnays like this little charmer once the word gets out. Made from 100 percent Chardonnay, the wine was aged 10 months in French barriques and American white oak. In the glass, aromas of lemon, lime and melon lead to more citrusy and tropical fruit notes with subtle spice and yeasty undertones. This excellent vintage is crisp and well-balanced with good acidity. Drink now and over the next four years. Good with fish, shellfish, quiche and pasta dishes. Where to buy it: The Wine Seller, Elio's Wine Warehouse and Whole Foods Market in Metairie. Where to drink it: Irene's Cuisine, Restaurant Anatole, Windsor Court Hotel, Maison Dupuy, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, Fire of Brazil, Todaro's Restaurant and Muriel's. (Listings current at press time.)
