Wine of the Week

You don't need a tall ship or sun-drenched sparkling seas to appreciate The Jibe, a wine named after a sailing term meaning to shift the sail from one side of the boat to the other to catch the ever-changing wind. The nautical connection doesn't end there. The label shape portrays a billowing sail, a beacon for all mariners. Since their U.S. introduction, New Zealand Pinot Noirs have been taking the wind out of the sales of other wines because of their refreshing, balanced acidity and versatility with food. Unscrew the cap and pour — releasing bouquets of red cherry and raspberry. On the palate, the wine exhibits vibrant, ripe red fruit flavors, some black cherry, a hint of mineralilty and firm but supple tannins. Good with a variety of foods such as burgers, pasta and Italian sausage, garlic-roasted chicken and grilled pork tenderloin. Where to buy it: Whole Foods on Magazine Street, The Market on Esplanade and Dorignac's. (Listings current at press time.)
