Wine of the Week

Italian Chardonnay? Si! Ruffino selects grapes from vineyards hugging the hillsides near Sienna in Tuscany for this value-priced wine. Following fermentation, the wine rests on its lees for a month, then is stored in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel vats until bottling. It touches no wood. Straw-hued and floral scented, this wine shows some complexity, offering aromas of dried sage and crusty bread with a touch of mineralilty and just a whiff of tropical fruit. On the palate, fresh flavors of golden apple and orange peel predominate with hints of honey. Serve chilled but not icy. A good, light wine for summer. Wonderful paired with fresh fin and shellfish, pastas and other dishes with light sauces. Where to buy it: Most Sav-A-Centers and Dorignac's. Where to drink it: FratelloÕs, Lido;s and Brick Oven. (Listings current at press time.)
