Wine of the Week

The maritime-influenced McLaren Vale region, 50 miles south of Adelaide in Southern Australia, produced the grapes for this intensely flavored wine. Following harvest the wine was warm fermented on the skins for several weeks before pressing, then aged 12 months in French barriques. A dense, dark, aromatic wine, Rockbare Shiraz offers scents of wild berries, super-ripe cherries and nutty oak with flavors of stewed plums, blackberries, licorice and nuances of spice. An excellent vintage. Drink now or cellar for several years. Good with hearty fare like beef ragout, roast duck, meatballs and rotisserie chicken. Available at The Wine Seller, Cork & Bottle, Elio's Wine Warehouse and Rouse's in Covington.
