Wine of the Week

From Sicily, the 150-year-old family-owned firm Donnafugata exports this easy-drinking wine made from 100 percent Nero d'Avola grapes sourced from its Palermo vineyards. Vinified in stainless steel, the wine spends nine months in 2-year-old French oak barrels. In the glass, spicy and fruity aromas are joined by sensations of tobacco and mineral notes. On the palate, an earthy quality emerges, blended with blackberries and black cherries in a velvety texture. A good structure and naturally high in acid. Drinking well now but can be cellared for several years. Good with spicy sausages, pasta with meaty sauces, roast beef and chops. Available at Cork & Bottle, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, Elio's Wine Warehouse and Dorignac's.
