Portugal's Vinho Verde wines are generally light, crisp, slightly spritzy and low in alcohol. Established 30 years ago, Quinta da Lixa, a family-owned and -operated winemaker in the Minho region's Vinho Verde appellation, produces the Anjos de Portugal brand. Vineyards fill Minho's lush countryside, and the region's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean is a big factor in its productive terroir. Grapes for this wine were sourced from 15-year-old vines in the Quinta de Sanguinhedo vineyard. A blend of 40 percent arinto and 30 percent each trajadura and loureiro grapes were hand harvested in September 2016. Following a gentle pressing, the juice was cool-fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. In the glass, the wine offers aromas of grapefruit, green apple and a touch of lime. On the palate, taste citrus, a hint of tangy peach, a subtle herbal note, bright acidity and appealing minerality. Drink it with shellfish, salads, appetizers, vegetables, chilled soups and white meats. Buy it at: Martin Wine Cellar, Terranova Brothers Superette and Rouses on North Carrollton Avenue. Drink it at: Mimi's in the Marigny and Carrollton Market.
