Win, Place, Show

Subtitled "Fairgrounds Tales: Winners, Losers and Longshot," Win, Place, Show returns to remind New Orleanians that we didn't just lose football and basketball seasons this fall. We missed the grand tradition that has been the horse-racing season, and nobody knows more about that than the trio of Ronnie Virgets, Chris Champagne and Lawrence P. Beron. Living in New Orleans has always seemed like a gamble in one way or another, whether it's sending your kids to public schools, walking down certain uncertain city streets, dodging potholes or placing your bets on any given politician come election time. But this is about gambling in its most elemental, unpredictable form, and these three writers have crafted a series of monologues that tap into the psychology, thrill, humor and pathos of betting on the ponies. Jimmy Bevill directs, Jason Knobloch provides the soundscape, and the audience itself will even be recruited to join in the fun. Sounds like a sure bet. Tickets $25 (includes $5 bar credit).
