Turkey and the Wolf named one of nation’s best new restaurants

Food & Wine magazine announces its top 10 new restaurants

Turkey and the Wolf (739 Jackson Ave., 504-218-7428; www.turkeyandthewolf.com), Mason Hereford and Lauren Holton's whimsical Irish Channel sandwich shop, has been named one of Food & Wine magazine's 10 best new restaurants of the year.

  The list called Turkey and the Wolf a "sleeper hit," praising its lamb neck roti, fried bologna sandwich, tacos "inauthenticos" and the fiery cabbage salad.

  The restaurant has won praise from critics (including this one) both locally and nationally.

  The list also includes Brooklyn's Olmsted, Chicago's Roister and San Francisco's Tartine Manufactory. Last year, editors chose N7 as the New Orleans contender, calling it "the most romantic French restaurant in the world."
