will receive the SFJAZZ Center's Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala concert in San Francisco in February 2018. "Preservation Hall is a model of how a cultural institution can become an integrated part of a city's identity — an idea that inspires us," the center said in a statement. The concert will feature the Pres Hall Jazz Band, Ellis Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Christian Scott, Big Freedia and dozens of other New Orleans musical luminaries.

Parkway Bakery & Tavern
raised $8,000 for the Al Copeland Foundation for cancer research with its "I Did It for the Turkey" promotion, which allowed $100 donors to "cut the line" for the restaurant's wildly popular Thanksgiving po-boys. The po-boys — available only on Wednesdays in November — were so sought-after that the restaurant decided to harness their popularity to raise money for charity.

Mike Edmonson,
former head of Louisiana State Police, lived the high life on taxpayers' dime during his nine-year tenure, according to a draft of a Legislative Auditor's report. The Advocate reported last week that the audit "portrays Edmonson as a freeloader who never turned down a handout" and that he "may have broken several laws during his nine years as superintendent." Edmonson announced his retirement recently after controversies.
