Louisiana ranks among the worst states in the U.S. for child well-being, according to the 2017 Kids Count report from the Agenda for Children and Anne E. Casey Foundation. More than a quarter of children in the state live in poverty, and more than 30 percent of children live in households with insecure employment and high housing cost burdens. The report also gave the state low marks for poor reading levels and high death rates among young children and teens.
