The name of the latest restaurant to join Lakeview's commercial corridor is a mouthful, but diners who know their way around the standard New Orleans-area Japanese restaurant menu should feel comfortable here.
Lakeview Pearl Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro (6300 Canal Blvd., 504-309-5711; www.lakeviewpearl.com) opened in early August with an extensive menu largely devoted to sushi and the roster of cooked appetizers, tempura and teriyaki combinations common in many area Japanese restaurants. The Asian bistro allows for a pan-Asian approach, and diners can find a sideline of Chinese-American dishes, such as kung pao shrimp and sweet-and-sour chicken, and Thai curry fried rice.
Lakeview Pearl is a family-friendly restaurant with a mix of tables and booths, a sushi bar and outdoor seating on a small front porch. There's a full bar and Lakeview Pearl serves lunch and dinner daily.
In other sushi news, Asuka Sushi & Hibachi (7912 Earhart Blvd., 504-862-5555; www.asukaneworleans.com) recently took over the small spot occupied by Kobe Teriyaki, a quick-serve Japanese concept that proved short-lived. Asuka has a more extensive Japanese menu, with a full array of sushi bar items and grilled hibachi-style dishes. Lunch specials are good deals here, and there are many sushi and hibachi combos for under $10. Asuka serves lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.
Meanwhile, one of the best-established names in the local sushi game opened a new location. There are now Little Tokyo (www.littletokyonola.com) restaurants in Mid-City, Carrollton and Metairie, but it all started in 1986 on Causeway Boulevard. In spring, the company closed this original location and reopened a new Little Tokyo (2300 N. Causeway Blvd., 504-831-6788) about a half-mile away, just off the I-10 cloverleaf. It's a much larger space, with a big bar and a pair of private dining/party rooms equipped with karaoke machines. This new Little Tokyo keeps late hours, serving from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
