Roman Pizza (7329 Cohn St., 866-1166) sits inconspicuously in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Aside from the sign outside, you might never suspect that inside a crew of cooks is busy every day cooking up pizzas, salads, sandwiches and Italian entrees made to order for pickup or delivery.
The business has operated for 15 years and has loyal customers who come from as far as Metairie and Kenner to pick up meals (the shop only delivers within a 3-mile radius of the store). Many are former Tulane students or used to live in the neighborhood and are partial to the entrees and pizzas made daily from fresh ingredients.
"Everything we use is made fresh every day," says owner Kevin Conley, who bought the restaurant two years ago. "We make our dough for the pizzas and bread fresh every morning. We slice up tomatoes, onions, mushrooms every day. We even buy blocks of cheese and shred it ourselves."
The menu is varied, offering entrees such as spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chicken cacciatore, eggplant Parmesan and more; sandwiches on fresh-baked bread; spicy chicken wings; a variety of salads; and desserts of cheesecake or tiramisu.
"People know us as a pizza place, but we do so much more," Conley says. "A family can order a Caesar salad for mom, lasagna for dad and pizza for the kids all from one place. We also do a lot of catering." Don't be surprised if the owner himself delivers your order. "That's the most fun thing I like to do," he says.
The Dress To Kill family of stores recently opened Dress To Kill Clothing Company (1132 Decatur St., 654-1854) to provide customers with everything they need fashion-wise for vacation, including casual and resort wear, sandals, sunglasses, hats and handbags. Just a few days ago, Dress To Kill Footwear and Accessories (227 Dauphine St.) opened with hundreds of shoes, sandals and handbags as well as jewelry, eyewear and other fashion accessories. Dress To Kill already has two women's clothing stores at 207 Dauphine St. and 215 Dauphine St.
