ULTSHOPPER-ShopTalk 9-11-07 Glamour Afoot By Lee Cutrone Lorena and Greg Perret specialize in fashionable shoes at affordable prices. Ever notice that it was a pair of shoes that got Dorothy back home and a single slipper that helped Cinderella find her prince? In fairy tales as in life, shoes can be a magical commodity, a fact that's not lost on many women. Luckily, there is a way for locals to indulge their fantasies and have chameleon feet without emptying their bank accounts.

At Glamour Shoes (5300 Tchoupitoulas St., Suite F4, 891-3314), located in the Riverside Market shopping center, variety and affordability go hand in hand. Husband-and-wife owners Greg and Lorena Perret stock their 2-year-old store with more than 200 styles -- for fall, there are more than 50 choices of boots alone -- all priced from $16 to $40.

"Glamour Shoes caters to all ages from preteens to retirees," says Greg, who usually can be found at the couple's neighboring clothing store, Diva. "We have shipments arrive every week, which is unusual for a shoe store. We go to market every month to month-and-a-half. The trends change so quickly. There's always something new."

Another plus at Glamour is the range of sizes. All of the women's shoes come in sizes 6 to 11 (the latter sometimes is difficult to find in some shoe stores), while the children's shoes come in sizes 11 to 4.

The store offers weekly sales and a plethora of costume jewelry, sunglasses and purses as well. Currently, Glamour's colorful inventory runs the gamut from flats to 4-inch heels and includes lots of coordinating accessories like bold bangles; chunky, beaded necklaces; rhinestone fleur de lis pendants; trendy, designer knockoff sunglasses; and a new selection of purses designed to match some of the shoes (after numerous seasons of de rigueur mismatching, ladylike matched accessories are once again making fashion news).

During September, shoppers will find 50 percent off all jewelry and 20 percent off all handbags. Merchandise in the store comes from names like Michael Antonio, Miss Me and Bamboo.

For the shoe shopper with a selfless agenda, gift certificates, which can be used at both Glamour and Diva, also can be purchased. "We like to think of ourselves as a one-stop shop on Tchoup," says Greg. "A grandmother can come in with her granddaughter, and we'd have something for both."
