The Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp St., 539-9600; www.ogdenmuseum.org) will host The Art of Giving, a museum members-only shopping event, on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. — featuring pottery, jewelry, textiles, glass, metal, wood and basketry from more than 35 Southern artists, many of whom will be in attendance. CDs, books, Ogden T-shirts and other gifts also will be for sale. The public is invited to a free Family Fun Day on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Saturday, Dec. 6 marks the official start of holiday shopping in the French Quarter with a tree lighting at Washington Artillery Park (sponsored by French Market Corporation and French Quarter Business Association), accompanied by students from St. Andrew's Episcopal School playing bells and McDonogh 15 Elementary School's choir singing carols at 5:30 p.m., followed by special shopping hours from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at many French Quarter shops.
