Buffalo Exchange (3312 Magazine St., 891-7443; www.buffaloexchange.com) is having a $1 back-to-school sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, with all proceeds benefiting Andrew Jackson Elementary and Chalmette High School in St. Bernard Parish. All during August, Buffalo Exchange has collected donated school supplies for the two schools and matching all those donations.

Esplanade Ave., Metairie, 885-2383) is now open and offering $1-per-day rentals on all movies, including new releases, a variety of DVDs, classic films, the Criterion Collection, foreign films, kids' movies, independent and cultural films. There's also a "movie star wall" where films are categorized by actor. The business also offers unlimited rentals for $20 month and you can take out three movies at a time. On the first day of rental only, DVDs can be returned and re-rented for $1.

Pitch in to help small businesses and enjoy a Zephyrs baseball game at the same time. Friday, Sept. 1, is Desire NOLA night at Zephyr Field, and fans can purchase regular tickets for $6 or VIP tickets for $50 from www.desirenola.org. During the game Desire NOLA will give grants totaling $25,000 to 12 small businesses, and special jerseys worn by players and coaches will be auctioned off. Before the game (until midnight Aug. 31), you can bid during an online auction for a limited number of Desire NOLA specialty jerseys signed by the entire Zephyrs team.
