Ballin's Ltd. (721 Dante St., 866-4367) is having a trunk show for the Lafayette 148 line of women's clothing Thursday, Aug. 24 through Saturday, Aug. 26, during regular business hours. Special sizing, including petite, regular and plus sizes, will be available at this show. Lafayette 148 offers a wide range of fashions featuring enduring workmanship and exceptional fabrics.

Cold Stone Creamery opened a new store at 624 S. Carrollton Ave. (218-8900; last week next to the now-closed Camellia Grill. Owner John Haspel says the shop offers more than a dozen flavors of ice cream and sorbet or you can have them custom-mix your favorite flavors or "extras" on the spot. The store also sells ice cream cakes, smoothies and shakes.

Ele (3316 Magazine St., 309-8674) and Tomato (3318 Magazine St., 895-0444) are hosting a special after-hours sale from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 — complete with wine and cheese for customers. Ele will offer big savings on summer shoes as well as 10 percent off all fall shoes. Next door, Tomato will have its summer apparel marked down 20 to 60 percent, and a large selection of denim will be 20 to 40 percent off.

Go to a Boutique Grand Opening event at Humbug Inc. (2707 Williams Blvd., 469-3339) and enjoy sale prices on all clothing, shoes and accessories.

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art Center for Southern Craft and Design (925 Camp St., 539-9613; is hosting a trunk show of sculptor and jewelry designer Thomas Mann creations that includes more than 175 pieces. The show will run through Sept. 24 and can be seen during regular museum hours of 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The Red Maple Restaurant (1036 Lafayette St., Gretna, 367-0935) is offering all the snow crabs you can eat for $15.95 on Monday nights and whole Maine lobster for $16.95 on Wednesday nights.

Vintage by Monique (222 Lee Lane, Covington, 985-893-0217;, which specializes in vintage designer costume jewelry, fashions and accessories, is hosting a special event featuring Christian motivational speaker/comedian Becky Lynn at the store at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. Admission is free, but call for reservations.
