Seven Mayors of New Orleans: Panel Discussions

  A biweekly series of panel discussions on the last seven mayors of New Orleans, from 1946 to the present begins this week at the Louisiana Humanities Center (938 Lafayette St.). Brian Boyles, program director for the Louisiana Humanities Center, says the free educational presentations, titled "The New Orleans Mayors," aim to provide historic perspective on the office while contributing to public dialogue in the campaign and interest in city history. The series begins Oct. 7, with Bobby Dupont, a professor at UNO, moderating a presentation on the late deLesseps "Chep" Morrison. The rest of the schedule is: Victor Schiro, moderated by Tulane Professor Larry Powell, Oct. 20; Moon Landrieu, moderated by Errol Laborde of New Orleans Magazine, Nov. 4; Ernest "Dutch" Morial, moderated by WDSU-TV anchor Norman Robinson, Nov. 18; Sidney Barthelemy, moderated by UNO Professor Ed Chevernak, Dec. 2; Marc Morial, moderated by WWL-TV anchor Dennis Woltering, Dec. 16. The series concludes with incumbent Ray Nagin, moderated by Clancy DuBos of Gambit on Jan. 13. Seating for all presentations is free but limited. — Johnson
