Rancid is one of those bands you'll see pictured if you look in the dictionary under "back in the day." Following in the footsteps of bands like the Germs and the Dead Kennedys, who made speedy, catchy, hardcore punk rock teenage boys liked to jump up and down to in 1980s Southern California, these former members of Operation Ivy carried the torch and recorded several albums' worth of speedy, catchy hardcore punk that teenage boys enjoyed jumping up and down to in the '90s. Dripping with adolescent snottiness and as energetic as a fourteen-year-old skate punk with ADD, this music is the last gasp of punk that emerged in a world before MTV's T.R.L. Sixteen years after their formation, the four original members still bring the rock. With Whole Wheat Bread and Radionation. Tickets $18. -- Alison Fensterstock
