Three days earlier, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) questioned Jindal's use of advance lease payments of federal funds to finance the privatization of six public hospitals in the state. Jindal had not obtained federal approval for using the federal funds in that way, which could add $260 million to Louisiana's already-strapped budget in the current fiscal year — and much more in years to come.
