"I'm quite surprised at the numbers. It looks like they've grown the cost of government dramatically for no apparent reason." — Former Gov. Kathleen Blanco to the Monroe News-Star, reacting to a report about Gov. Bobby Jindal's Division of Administration. Under Blanco, the paper reported, there were 108 DOA employees making more than $80,000 a year; under Jindal, that number had risen to 177 employees, cumulatively earning more than $17 million. Jindal spokesman Kyle Plotkin explained, "The reality is that the majority of these hires are related to disaster recovery so they are temporary workers and are paid for with federal funds."
