Quintron and Miss Pussycat Record-Release Party

If heaven were a roller rink, the DJ would be playing Mr. Quintron's latest -- the mystical, intriguing Jamskate EP. Hosts of the the Spellcaster Lodge and organizers of the bohemian-traditional Mardi Gras outfit the Ninth Ward Marching Band, every record Mr. Q and Miss P. make is a party record. It's just that sometimes they sound like the soundtracks to very odd parties indeed -- like if a clique of really cool squirrels were throwing down at a wild happening in the enchanted woodlands. The long-awaited Jamskate EP, recorded a few years ago but never released, is exactly that sort of album, and it's finally out, with 500 vinyl discs pressed on Q's Rhinestone Records label. The title track's swirling, vertiginous organ is the perfect accompaniment to a secret roller disco in space. The duo is joined here by R&B guitarist Guitar Lightning and white, Jewish, female Memphis gangsta rapper Choppergirl. The evening will end with a late-night tribute to the Emperor of the Universe himself, Ernie K-Doe. Tickets $5. -- Alison Fensterstock
