Oscar-Nominated Animated Short Films

Until recently, Scrat and Martin Scorcese had one thing in common: no Oscars. Now Scrat, of Ice Age and sequel Ice Age 2: The Meltdown fame, continues his quest alone. His short film No Time For Nuts (pictured) was nominated for best animated short film in 2006, but the Oscar went to the more sensitive and existential film The Danish Poet. While trying to bury an acorn, Scrat finds a time machine and embarks on an epic tour of the ages in this frenzied seven-minute film. The Danish Poet, however, follows a writer at the bottom of his creative well as he searches for new inspiration. This showcase of short films runs the gamut of storylines and animation sophistication, from more traditional forms to cutting-edge digital techniques from the biggest studios. The New Orleans Film Society presents all the 2006 Oscar nominees plus other notable recent short films. Tickets $7 general admission, $6 NOFS/CAC members. -- Will Coviello
