New Year Baby

Socheata Poeuv (pictured) grew up in Texas and knew little about her early life until her parents gathered the family at Christmas in 2002. They revealed that she wasn't actually related to her sisters and shared only one parent with her brother. Her parents had survived Pol Pot's labor camps in Cambodia. Eventually they escaped to Thailand, where she was born, then the United States. The revelation reopens many questions that Socheata's parents had never answered for her. In this documentary, she takes them back on an emotional journey through their homeland where the Khmer Rouge killed an estimated 1.7 million Cambodians. She discovers much about herself and the tumultuous times her parents survived. Free admission. — Will Coviello
