Summer isn't peak oyster season, but that didn't stop Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar and Fish House (512 Bienville St., 504-309-4848) from opening recently. The new French Quarter restaurant is located just off the bustle of Decatur Street and is decked out in red and blue neon, with a warm diner feel and plenty of seating at the counter.

The menu features standard fish house fare, including Cajun crawfish pasta, a stuffed crab dinner and fried oyster salad. The oyster bar serves oysters a number of unusual ways, including Bienville-style (topped with shrimp, green onions and mushrooms) and Southwest-style (char-broiled and topped with jalapenos).

The restaurant's namesake, Ed McIntyre, operates another Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar and Fish House (3117 21st St., Metairie, 504-833-6310), as well as the steakhouse Austin's (5101 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie, 504-888-5533; www.austinsno.com), Cheeseburger Eddie's (4517 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie, 504-455-5511) and Mr. Ed's Restaurants.

The French Quarter location of Mr. Ed's is open for lunch and dinner daily.
