Marigny Opera Ballet's new program Jazz Ballets features two new pieces by local choreographers and musicians and a reprise of Wary Heat, which premiered last year. Choreographer Gretchen Erickson takes inspiration from Quentin Tarantino's Westerns Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight for her love story, Silk and Smoke, performed to a commissioned piece by guitarist Russell Welch. Tells is a piece based on a high-stakes game of poker performed by the company's six male dancers. It's choreographed by Kellis McSparrin-Oldenburg to music by Rex Gregory. Wary Heat is an ecstatic piece by Brazilian transplant Diogo de Lima, featuring music by Nutria, a jazz ensemble featuring Byron Asher, Trey Boudreaux and Shawn Myers. Tickets $25-$40. 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Marigny Opera House, 725 St. Ferdinand St., (504) 948-9998; www.marignyoperahouse.org.
