Throws: plush seahorses, LED bouncing balls, bracelets, seahorse medallions and flambeaux, footballs, neoprene bottle wraps and krewe cups and doubloons
The Krewe of Proteus marks its 135th anniversary this year, and the traditional parade features antique floats including a king's float modeled after one of its earliest royal float designs, plus 50 flambeaux. The theme honors Hindu gods including Ganesh and Vishnu.

6 p.m.
Location: Uptown
Theme: The Wizard's Bestiary
Floats: 40
Monarch: Nathan Fillion
Throws: lighted fedoras, Leviathan hats and magnetic crest pins; guitar and trumpet yard dogs; glitter masks; LED tambourines, maracas, recorders and
harmonicas; and doubloons
Nathan Fillion, star of Castle and Firefly, rides as celebrity monarch and is joined by Krista Allen of Significant Mother. Floats depict such mythical creatures as a Kracken, Gargouille, the Lambton Worm, "Voodoo Zombie," the Boogeyman and others. The procession also includes the creatures of Lightwire Theater and the Keesler Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps with a team carrying the flags from all 50 states.

7 p.m.
Location: Metairie
Theme: announced day of parade
Floats: 14
Queen: Lydia Glapion Days
Throws: hand-decorated Pandora's boxes, lighted beads, medallion beads, krewe cups, earplugs and doubloons
The all-woman krewe makes its Carnival debut. Formed by leadership from the Krewe of Nyx, it features Nyx captain Julie Lea as grand marshal.
