Louisiana Crafts Marketplace

The Louisiana Crafts Marketplace is a two-day craft fair set up in the gymnasium space of St. George's Episcopal School. The event will showcase 50 artists from the Louisiana Crafts Guild who work in three-dimensional mediums using textiles, clay, metal, glass, wood, mixed media and more (a gourd by Margaret Binkhaus is pictured). Many of the artists are from the Lafayette area, including raku pottery designer Bruce Odell, who will be at the show. Artists are admitted to the Guild by jury approval. A "make and take" crafts area will be set up for children and there will be live music. The Marketplace is one of many events happening statewide under the umbrella of the "Cultural Passport" program of the World Cultural Economic Forum. Created by Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu's Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, the Forum showcases the culture of the state in performing arts, visual art, music and also culinary achievement. See the Web site for a list of local and statewide events. Admission to the Louisiana Crafts Marketplace is free. -- Will Coviello
