Live theater and comedy events in New Orleans this week (Aug. 30-Sept. 5, 2016)

Flood City
Thu.-Sun. Sept. 1-17 | The NOLA Project premieres a dark comedy about survivors of two disasters to hit Johnstown, Pennsylvania — a flood in 1889 and the collapse of the steel industry a century later. At 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at NOCCA.

Mark Normand
Thu. Sept. 1 | Before New Orleans’ recent comedy explosion, it produced Mark Normand, born and raised in the city before honing abroad his sharp and refreshingly old-fashioned, lethally funny stand-up. Normand has made countless TV appearances, including a recent stop on The Late Show, a Comedy Central half-hour and several Conan spots, and been Amy Schumer’s longtime, reliable opener, including their recent Madison Square Garden appearance. Stand-Up NOLA presents his homecoming with comedians Matt Owens and Cassidy Henehan at 8 p.m. at The Joy Theater.
