Dam-Funk with DJ Soul Sister
Fri. July 17 | This "Summer of Funk" heat wave combines Stones Throw DJ Dam-Funk with regular New Orleans foil DJ Soul Sister, whose Right On '80s Party and Booty Patrol Dancers are both an opener exemplar and impossible-to-follow party starter. At 11 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.


PJ Morton
Fri. July 17 | New Orleans R&B artist and Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton holds a DVD release party for Live Show Killer, featuring work from his solo career. Dee-1 opens at 10 p.m. at The Howlin' Wolf.


The Avett Brothers
Sat. July 18 | Appalachian revivalists Seth and Scott Avett caught fire on the Rick Rubin-produced 2009 album I and Love and You. The brothers' latest is 2013's Magpie and the Dandelion (American). Old Crow Medicine Show opens at 8 p.m. Champions Square.


Little Freddie King's 75th Birthday
Sat. July 18 | New Orleans' dapper gutbucket bluesman Little Freddie King celebrates his 75th birthday at 10 p.m. at BJ's Lounge. (He's also at d.b.a. at 10 p.m. Thursday.)


Sounds of New Orleans Benefit Concert
Sat. July 18 | The concert featuring John Boutte, Sweet Crude, Bonerama, Lynn Drury, Paul Sanchez, OperaCreole and others benefits St. Jude Community Center. At 7 p.m. at Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts.

Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson
Mon. July 20 | Billy Corgan, frontman of 1990s breakout alt rockers Smashing Pumpkins, and '90s shock rocker Marilyn Manson have mended their at-times fractious ways and are playing many of their 1990s hits on this End Times tour. At 7 p.m. at Champions Square.
