Langhorne Slim

The conservatory-trained, folk-rock artist Langhorne Slim honed his chops touring with the quirky mom-and-pop act the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players. His bluesy, countrified songs are sweet and slick like honey on a biscuit. Rural Americana sounds are warmed up with a heavy dose of Southern soul. He shares the bill with Amy LaVere, a Memphis-based singer/songwriter whose gentle, introspective country-rock ballads fall somewhere between Jolie Holland's vintage picking and vocalizing and Kathleen Edwards' soft and chewy Lucinda Williams-style tunes. The recent Big Easy Award winner in the roots rock category, the Happy Talk Band, opens. Tickets $12. — Alison Fensterstock 10 p.m. Fri., May 9
