Howlin' Wolf 20th Anniversary Series presents MVVP

10 p.m. Fri., Dec. 12

Howlin' Wolf, 907 S. Peters St., 522-WOLF; www.thehowlinwolf.com

All month, the Howlin' Wolf celebrates two decades as an independent music venue that brought the club from Fat City all the way to the Warehouse District (a longer distance ideologically than physically). The schedule includes a little bit of funk, a little brass, hip-hop and indie rock, as the Wolf's booking schedule has since 1988. This show features MVVP, an awkward acronym for the local all-star group — Moore (Stanton, pictured), Vidacovich (Johnny), Vogel (Rich) and Porter (George Jr.) — a gang of heavy hitters that brings decades of combined experience to extended superjams full of jazzy B3 organ and nasty funk rhythm. In case you feel that there may not be enough funk in the room, Funky Meter Russell Batiste is also on the bill to bail out any funk deficit. The anniversary series continues through New Year's Eve. Tickets $15. — Alison Fensterstock
