Harry Merry, C-Section-8, the Belong, the Buttons

For just about a decade, the Spellcaster -- the legendary lair of mad organist Mr. Quintron and quirky puppeteer Miss Pussycat, which often features Antoinette K-Doe behind the boat-shaped bar -- has been home to an eclectic crew of local and national acts. This last throwdown of the season features local acts the Buttons, who coax twittering, beeping dance music out of machines, and one-man noise artist and DJ C-Section-8. Harry Merry (pictured), a towering, benevolent Dutch oddity, tells cheerful, masterfully simple musical stories in English-as-a-second-language with toy piano and organ, recorded drum tracks and restrained noise. The Belong, a fuzzy, ambient experimental electronica duo from the West Bank, has toured the world with lo-fi psych-pop master Ariel Pink, but has never -- until now -- played a show on this side of the river. Tickets $5. -- Alison Fensterstock
