Helix , a new wine bar and restaurant (936 St. Charles Ave., 963-0903; has opened in Hotel Le Cirque at Lee Circle. Helix pours 35 wines by the glass, and chef Lillie Johnson serves dishes like hanger steak, mussels with linguini, pizzas and risotto, plus cheese and charcuterie plates. The stylish, modern space was home to Lee Circle Restaurant prior to Katrina and briefly afterward the Asian-style tapas restaurant Ohia.

Signature Event

For its 24th annual Signature Chefs Gala on Sunday, Nov. 23, the March of Dimes has invited more than a dozen chefs from the city's fine-dining scene to prepare their signature dishes to share with patrons at the New Orleans Marriott hotel on Canal Street. Thomas Wolfe of Wolfe's Restaurant and Wolfe's in the Warehouse is chef chairman for the event, and Mark Quitney, from the Marriott's 5Fifty5 restaurant, is the host chef. They'll be joined by chefs from restaurants ranging from Commander's Palace to Andrea's as well as Rock Harper , who appeared on the Fox network cooking show Hell's Kitchen . Time It wasn't long ago that a "green cocktail" meant one made with Midori or Chartreuse. But on Wednesday, the organization behind the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival will host Tales of the Eco-Toddy , a cocktail party testing how well the themes of holiday drinks and environmentally conscious living can coexist. The event features local bartenders mixing toddies and other specialty drinks, local restaurants serving desserts and an herb garden designed for growing cocktail garnishes at home. Local vendors will offer their wares at a holiday gift market, and New Orleans food educator Poppy Tooker will sign copies of her new Crescent City Farmer's Market Cookbook .
