The 10-year anniversary of South African democracy is the motivation behind Jazz Fest&185;s South African Pavilion, as well as various cultural exhibits and activities held around town in conjunction with the festival. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, Chef Tracey Williams will serve food and drinks made with Amarula Cream Liqueur at TwiRoPa Mills&185; (1544 Tchoupitoulas St.) South African Freedom Day Celebration. Amarula is made from cream and the fermented fruit of South Africa&185;s Marula tree; Williams makes sno-balls, creme brulee and chocolate-covered strawberries with the liqueur. It has been a month since Priestess Miriam of the Voodoo Spiritual Temple blessed the new VooBrew Coffee & Tea (830 N. Rampart St., 324-6420). The cafe&185;s owners, also the proprietors of the Olde Victorian Inn & Miss Celie&185;s Spa Orleans (914 N. Rampart St., 522-2446), serve freshly baked pastries (including red velvet cake), as well as coffee drinks and teas. Peters St., 525-3474) is going all-out Spain with a traditional tapas menu served weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chorizo, jamon serrano, shrimp al ajillo and pressed sandwiches are a few of the 25 tapas offered; all are priced between $4 and $8 and designed to encourage group snacking. In the spirit of Spaniards&185; predilection to drink well but not guzzle when they eat, chef-owner Adolfo Garcia also plans to roll out a wine cart with Spanish wines and sherries to be poured in half-portions for roughly $3 each.
