International Flavor
Malaysia is on the menu at Bayona (430 Dauphine St., 522-0588) this Wednesday and Thursday, when Susan Spicer hosts guest chef Pengyew Chin. Born in Malaysia, Chin also works elements of Indian, Indonesian, Thai and Chinese cooking into his preparations. The five-course prix fixe menu offered both nights for $40 includes tastes of fish in curried custard with Thai basil (otak-otak); steamed rice with fenugreek, ginger and screwpine leaves (nasi dagang); and a coconut jam tartlet with galangal ice cream.

Star Shine
The StarChefs Rising Star Revue, a walk-around tasting that involves wine, live music and food prepared by New Orleans' Rising StarChefs, is to be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Thursday at Hotel Monaco (333 St. Charles Ave.). StarChefs calls itself "the premier online resource for information on the country's hottest names in the culinary field." The organization has selected the following local "chefs to watch": Donald Link of Herbsaint; Tom Wolfe of Wolfe's of New Orleans; Scott Boswell of Stella!; Peter Vazquez of Marisol; Jonathan Wright of The New Orleans Grill; Joy Jessup, pastry chef at Rene Bistrot and La Cote; Megan Roan, pastry chef at Bayona; and Revue host chef Brack May of Cobalt. Market Watch
During October, Serrano's Salsa Company (4436 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 780-2354) is spicing up the Crescent City Farmers Markets by providing Tuesday's Green Plate lunch specials. This week look for black bean soup and Kingston Shrimp, which are skewered with roasted pineapple and served on a bed of green rice. The Tuesday market is at 200 Broadway St. and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thursday market is at 3700 Orleans Ave. and runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Tea Time
The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans (921 Canal St., 524-1331) invites parents and children to Halloween Tea this Saturday and Sunday in The Lobby Lounge. Seatings are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the cost is $26 per person.
