The Cal-Mex food and margaritas of Lucy's
Retired Surfer's Restaurant & Bar (701 Tchoupitoulas St., 523-8995), a happy
hour retreat in the Warehouse District, are now available Uptown. The second Lucy's
opened in June at 5961 Magazine St. (895-0240), where Riverhouse Cafe & Bar used
to operate. The new location is working on its own personality: One manager reported
that lunch hours are more family-oriented Uptown and that late-nights are buzzing.
Lucy's on Magazine Street is open for lunch and dinner daily; happy hour runs
from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the week. The kitchen closes at 10 p.m. weeknights
and midnight weekends; the bar closes at midnight weeknights and 2 a.m. weekends.
Back From Break
After a short summertime hiatus, Dominique's (1001 Toulouse St., 522-8800) reopened on Aug. 10 with a new look and a new menu. Hailing from Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, Chef Dominique Macquet has always incorporated a good share of exotic fruits, seafood and spices into his cooking. The restaurant's new menu is even more tropical, still with significant French culinary influences. Macquet had a week to practice and research new ideas on a recent trip to the Turks & Caicos Islands, during which he volunteered his talents at a conch- and wine-tasting event sponsored by a local SPCA. Macquet is a member of The Chef Who Cares Society, composed of food industry professionals who purchase only farm-raised conch in an effort to save the Queen Conch from extinction. Chuck Hesse, CEO of the Caicos Conch Farm relayed via email that, "Dominique has brought us a lot of good will and charm."
Welcoming the McIlhenny Co. and its Tabasco products to their soon-to-be digs in the Warehouse District neighborhood, the Crescent City Farmers Market will feature an exhibit of hot sauces this Saturday, Aug. 23. Bring your own hot sauce invention for the 10 a.m. judging. The hottest and most original sauces will receive honors. The Tuesday market is at 200 Broadway St. and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thursday market is at 3700 Orleans Ave. and runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Saturday market is at 700 Magazine St. and runs from 8 a.m. to noon.
