Fleeing Katrina: Inspiring Journeys of Survival

On the second anniversary of Katrina, the stories of escaping the storm and its aftermath are in limbo between being as-yet unhealed wounds and what seems like ages ago in the phases of recovery. Rob Florence took a collage of remarkable personal stories and created the theatrical retelling Escaping Katrina: Inspiring Journeys of Survival, a series of monologues. The show debuted off-Broadway in New York and won an award for new off-Broadway theater. The New Orleans run will include several faces familiar to theater goers as well as one of the subjects performing his own monologue -- Rudy Rasmussen who faced an ordeal in forcing his elderly parents to evacuate the city. Performers include Harold Evans, Susaunne McKamey, Bob Scully, Janet Shea, Phil Tracy, Wilbert Williams (pictured with Sylvester Francis, whose story he tells) and Michael Zarou. Opening night is a benefit for Acadian Ambulance Katrina Relief Fund. Tickets -- Will Coviello
