Feed the Multitudes

Free food, live music and community spirit will draw people to City Park's Marconi Meadows to celebrte the 4th of July at Victory Fellowship's annual Feed the Multitudes event. The daylong festival has become an Independence Day tradition sponsored by local churches as well as the Salvation Army and Convoy of Hope, which are supporting this year's activities. Besides usual 4th of July barbecue fare, there are games, face painting, balloon animals and space walks for the kids as well as live music on two stages, one of which will feature Latin music. In the spirit of giving, Victory Fellowship will distribute bagged groceries, clothing, free health screenings and provide free haircuts. Victory Fellowship pastors, congregation and volunteers have hosted the party for 18 years. Free transportation is provided. There are pick-up/drop-off locations throughout the area, including Lee Circle, the New Orleans Mission on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, the Iberville housing project at Basin Street, Victory Fellowship's offices at 5708 Airline Drive in Metairie, Jesse Owens Park and elsewhere. Call for additional Orleans and Jefferson Parish transportation points. Free admission. -- Lauren LaBorde
