Dillard's School of Nursing receives grant for clinical trials

A $500,000 grant from the National Cancer Institute will be used by Dillard's School of Nursing and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center to increase minority participation in clinical trials. With the grant, Dillard's School of Nursing will offer Clinical Research Associate (CRA) certification to prepare nurses to work in clinical trials. The certification will be available to other health care practicitioners later.

Dr. Betty Dennis, Dillard's dean of nursing, says the program seeks to increase diversity among clinical trial clinicians as well as minority representation among trial participants. Dillard's program, one of only a handful in the nation, will train 20 people during the next two years.
