Dexter Romweber Duo

Can the Circle Bar contain Dex Romweber? The fury may have long ago left the former voice of Chapel Hill, N.C., rockabilly legends Flat Duo Jets, but Romweber's resonating, bellyaching bellows are still plenty imposing enough to fill rooms 10 times the size of New Orleans' biggest little venue — he's bound to level the leaning building one way or another, either raising it upright or razing it to rubble. On 2009's Ruins of Berlin (Bloodshot), Romweber's first official release with sister/timekeeper Sara, the human geyser is in familiar, if decelerated, form: back in front of a vintage rock duo, immolating instant classics and appropriated covers with gasoline-doused, surf-punk guitar licks and drum strikes that give off sparks. Joining the singer is seemingly everyone who's ever dropped his name in an interview. Neko Case and Chan Marshall (Cat Power) nestle in close, slow-dancing through "Still Around" and "Love Letters," respectively; and Exene Cervenka and Jack White are bold enough to match throats with him, peacocking on showoff vocal numbers "Lonesome Train" and "Last Kind Word Blues." Kenneth Brian opens. Tickets $8. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
