Christmas Tree Recycling

Jefferson Parish residents: Mark your calendars for Christmas tree recycling days. Leave your tree outside the evening of Jan. 6 for pickup Jan. 7-9. After the holidays, volunteers are needed to help place thousands of Christmas trees in preconstructed shoreline fences along Goose Bayou. Call the Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs at 731-4612 or visit www.jeffparish.net to sign up.

Volunteers must be at least 17 years old and will meet at 8 a.m. at Cochiara's Marina (4477 Jean Lafitte Blvd., Jean Lafitte) on Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Wear layered clothing, sturdy shoes, hats and sunscreen. Gloves, safety glasses, life vests and lunch will be provided.

The restoration project is funded in part by a $53,000 grant from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. — Alex Woodward
