The Orleans parish Chapter of the Alliance for Good Government will host a "Campaign Kickoff Cocktail Party" beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11) at Axel's Bonaparte Place (3900 Tulane Ave.) Tickets available at the door.
Robert Moffett, president of the Alliance chapter, says, "The purpose of this cocktail party is to give elected officials and others a chance to meet each other and Alliance members on an informal basis. Anyone interested in the political process in Orleans Parish is invited to attend."
Among those elected officials expected to show up are: state Sen. Paulette Irons, who is running for mayor; state Rep. Jackie Clarkson, who is expected to run for her old District C seat on the City Council, and state Rep. Renee Gill Pratt, who aspires to the Council District B seat now held by Oliver Thomas.
Prohibited by the city from seeking a third consecutive term for his district seat, Thomas is running for one of two at-large seats on the City Council.
Admission is $10. Refreshments will be served. Cash bar. Moffett also says the political organization's annual "Legislator of the Year" banquet has been scheduled for Dec. 16 at the Fairmont Hotel. Last year's honoree was freshmen state Rep. Karen Carter. For more information, call 822-2224.
