Cajun Zydeco Dance Festival

1 p.m.-1 a.m. Sat., Dec. 13; 3 p.m.-11 p.m. Sun., Dec. 14

Tiptinas, 501 Napoleon Ave., 895-TIPS;

Brush up on those waltzes and two-steps, because Tipitina's Cajun Zydeco Dance Festival is throwing down with 20 hours of accordion, fiddle and "aieee" for fans to shuffle along to. On Saturday, the bill features Creole cowboy and 2008 Grammy-nominee Geno Delafose (pictured), Boutté-based gospel rockers the Zion Harmonizers, Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble and the Benard Family Band. '60s garage-rocker Danny Kimball (of Lake Charles' Bad Roads) drums with the Lucky Playboys, who also perform Saturday. Rounding out the bill is T'Canaille, a Cajun-infused outfit who season traditional sounds with lots of jammy rock 'n' roll. Sunday features the Electrifying Crown Seekers, Steve Riley and his Mamou Playboys, Leon Chavez and the Zydeco Flames, and Tipitina's stalwart Bruce Daigrepont. Anyone who has been practicing at Daigrepont's weekly fais-do-do, will want to join the Cajun dance contest, which awards prizes both days of the fest. Tickets $10. — Fensterstock
